In America, every person embodies a story both shared and unique. Americans share many fundamental beliefs, yet the tapestry of our overall culture is woven from countless distinct and resilient threads. Our personal histories are so widely varied as to defy boundaries of any kind.
The fifteen artists in American Story represent a cross-section of the astonishing diversity of American life. Self-taught, folk, and academically trained artists from a variety of ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds are represented by site-specific installations, paintings, sculpture, and craft.
