The most interesting aspect of the study of hair is the contradictory reaction most people have toward it. Hair examines the ways in which contemporary American artists draw from, expand upon, and critique popular notions of hair from serving as a stand-in for the human body, to symbolizing and exploring issues of mortality and fetishism, to challenging the formal aspects of image making.
