Despite a long history of use as ornament and cultural symbol, beads traditionally have not been considered a fine art material. The artists in Structure and Surface demonstrate that beads are a versatile art medium that can be used to create sophisticated, provocative artworks, from intimate necklace forms to a 1960 Cadillac Sedan de Ville covered with over one million colorful beads, baubles, and other modular objects.
