Devorah Sperber: Pixelated

New York artist Devorah Sperber uses digital technology and commonplace objects to create her ingenious trompe l'oeil works. Using a computer to break up the images into discrete dots of color, Sperber recomposes the images manually using small manufactured objects such as spools of thread, pipe cleaners, tacks, and marker caps. This technique not only reflects the digital age in which we live but also calls to mind historical traditions in painting such as the Pointillism practiced by nineteenth-century French artists Seurat and Signac.
